A popular North Shore gourmet market is expanding beyond Marblehead with a brand-new café.

Maria’s Gourmet recently announced plans to open Maria’s Gourmet Café in Swampscott, bringing its popular selection of homemade prepared foods to a new neighborhood. According to business records, the café will be located at 149 Humphrey Street.

“You may have heard the news, but we’re here to confirm… Maria’s Gourmet Café will be opening soon on Humphrey St in Swampscott,” the company shared in a recent Instagram post.

Emily Figueroa, the café’s manager, confirmed the news with What Now Boston but said the project is still in its early stages, with specifics to be shared in the future. “We look forward to sharing more details as the project progresses and would be happy to keep you updated,” Figueroa said.

While the team hasn’t yet released the menu, the new café will likely reflect the offerings that have made Maria’s Gourmet a local favorite. The Marblehead market is known for its wide variety of homemade grab-and-go meals comfort meals, including chicken pot pie, mashed potatoes, soups, salads, quiches, frittatas, and pasta salads, along with fresh-baked goods and gourmet gift baskets. At the café, guests can also expect coffee and other café fare.

This new venture marks another exciting chapter for owner Maria Torres, who continues to grow the Maria’s Gourmet brand across the North Shore. On July 14, Torres reopened the longtime Driftwood Restaurant as Driftwood by Maria’s Gourmet after purchasing the nearly 60-year-old Marblehead institution.

“From the very beginning, our goal has been to preserve what makes the Driftwood so special,” Figueroa explained. “As a beloved Marblehead institution for nearly 60 years, we felt it was important to keep the menu and the overall experience exactly as guests have come to know and love. Aside from necessary price adjustments, customers can expect the same classic breakfast favorites, familiar atmosphere, and welcoming service that have made the Driftwood a local tradition for generations.”

An opening date for Maria’s Gourmet Café has not yet been announced, but hiring is already underway. Those interested in joining the team are encouraged to email [email protected] for more information.
