Costco is planned for the Freedom Farms mixed-use development in Clarksville, Tennessee, where it is expected to anchor the 220-acre project between Governor’s Square Mall and Interstate 24. According to WSMV 4, Montgomery County Commissioner Joshua Beal recently confirmed the retailer is expected to move forward after years of speculation and previous efforts to bring Costco to the area that ultimately fell through.
“We at the county kept working to help make this opportunity a reality,” Beal said, noting the project is expected to create jobs while expanding shopping options for residents.
The Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council announced that Costco is planned as the anchor tenant of the proposed Freedom Farms development along Ted Crozier Sr. Boulevard, according to WSMV 4. The retailer is expected to occupy about 25 acres within the project’s first phase, which will also include additional retail, residential development and new roadway improvements. The project remains subject to approval by the Montgomery County Commission.
According to the Economic Development Councilas as reported by WSMV 4, the Costco store is projected to represent a $55.2 million capital investment, generate approximately $250 million in annual sales and create about 600 direct jobs. Freedom Farms is expected to begin construction in spring 2027, with Costco currently targeting a spring 2028 opening if approvals move forward as planned.
According to the company’s website, Costco operates hundreds of membership warehouse clubs worldwide, offering bulk groceries, fresh foods, household essentials, electronics, apparel, pharmacy services and a popular food court. The company currently operates five warehouse clubs in the Nashville metropolitan area, with the Clarksville location poised to become its first in Montgomery County.
