Tender Heart Thrift is preparing to open a storefront at 683 O’Farrell Street, according to the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development. The business was named as one of 39 recipients selected to receive funding through the city’s Vacant Storefronts program, which awarded more than $3 million to help small businesses establish long-term locations in commercial corridors.
The program supports businesses opening in neighborhoods including the Tenderloin, Chinatown, Downtown, the Mission, Bayview, Excelsior, Fillmore, and Mid-Market. Grants are intended to help businesses secure vacant storefronts and complete the improvements needed before opening.
According to the city’s announcement, Tender Heart Thrift will operate from the O’Farrell Street location in the Tenderloin. The announcement identifies the business as one of the selected retail concepts that will occupy a previously vacant commercial space through the program. No opening date has been disclosed.
The city said the grants are designed to reduce the cost of opening brick-and-mortar businesses while increasing long-term occupancy of vacant storefronts. Tender Heart Thrift is among the businesses expected to open under the latest round of funding.
