The Home Depot announced last month that it had plans to open 12 new stores this year—3 of which having already opened in Leander, TX, Buckeye, AZ, and Naples, FL. But as we move solidly into the second half of 2026, 2027 gets closer and closer. And, as Tampa Bay Business & Wealth reports, plans are in place for further expansion in the Greater Tampa Bay Area next year.
The Home Depot has submitted paperwork to open a new store on the northeast corner of US-27 and Davenport Boulevard in Davenport.
“The retailer has posted a $2.35 million performance bond covering the public improvements required for the project,” the coverage says. “The bond covers the roads, drainage and other infrastructure required for the development. Home Depot U.S.A. Inc. is listed as the principal and Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. as the surety.”
Work would need to be completed by May 29, 2027 (unless Polk County grants an extension in the future).
Meanwhile, The Home Depot is gearing up for the opening in Inverness (which What Now covered in June). A representative told What Now this week that the opening, in keeping with other Home Depot openings this year, would include a Board Cutting & Neighborhood Night, with events like the following:
- Board-cutting ceremony with local VIPs
- Store officially opens to the public in the evening
- Free kids’ workshops, prize wheels, and giveaways
- Complimentary refreshments for the whole community
Then, a Grand Opening would include aspects like these:
- Doors open bright and early again for the public
- Local food trucks serving lunch to customers
- Live music and radio on-site
- More prize giveaways, free hats, and totes
These are a general outline of the event, whose details have yet to be finalized, the representative said. Details on the Davenport location are not yet available.
“We’re excited about all of the progress we’ve made in our stores,” said Senior Executive Vice President Ann-Marie Campbell. “And our efforts are paying off. In 2025, our customer satisfaction scores increased every quarter, and our tenure with hourly associates is the highest it’s been since 2017.”
