Born in Huntington, NY, Stella Blue is a Grateful Dead-inspired restaurant serving up “Groovy Food, Chill Music and Great Vibes.” After becoming a major destination for Deadheads up North, the restaurant is preparing to make its debut in Myrtle Beach, at 170 Sayebrook Pkwy.

The restaurant opened its Huntington location in 2014, Robert Koopman, who is opening the Myrtle Beach location with Ann Koopman after selling the Huntington restaurant, told What Now on Friday.

“We opened it because we love food, we love that time period, we love the Grateful Dead. It’s a fun time. There’s music playing and the place sort of hugs you when you come in. In New York, people who love the Grateful Dead would travel from all over.”

The Myrtle Beach location’s website showcases a breakfast and a lunch menu, together with cocktails. Expect to find sandwiches like the Hippie (grilled all-natural chicken, avocado, lettuce, tomato, cucumber & hummus in a warm pressed wrap) and the Dreadlock Rasta (famous breaded chicken cutlet, Buffalo sauce, lettuce, blue cheese on a warm hoagie). There will also be plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, 100% organic coffee, beer, wine, and cocktails—including some interesting concoctions (Koopman mentions a margarita made with sake!).

“We hope people will come. We’re all about community and family. We want people to come in, not have to be always looking at their phones, and just have a great time.”

Stella Blue will also be continuing its Pay It Forward program, allowing guests to set aside small funds for people less fortunate.

No opening date has been set yet, but expect a launch in the coming weeks!
