Sheetz, the Pennsylvania-based gas station and convenience store chain, is planning to expand into the Lake Norman area.

The proposed location will sit just off Interstate 77 at the intersection of Langtree Rd. and Alcove Rd., with two access points along Alcove Rd., according to information shared at the Town of Mooresville Planning Board meeting.

The Sheetz public affairs manager told Whatnow Charlotte the company is eager to expand in the area.

“We are very excited to bring more stores to the region and to eventually serve customers through a second location in the Lake Norman area, giving them the same dependable service they have come to expect at our location in Troutman,” Nick Ruffner said.

The convenience store offers a diverse made-to-order menu. Popular choices include the Big Mozz burger, chicken shnuggetz, French toast sticks, mac n’ cheese bites and customizable taco boxes. Breakfast sandwiches, wraps, salads and specialty drinks are also available. Sheetz also features signature coffee blends and milkshakes to complement its menu.

Customers can order in-store, for curbside pickup or, in select markets, for delivery through the Sheetz app or third-party services.

Bob Sheetz opened his first store on 5th Avenue in Altoona in 1952, spotting a gap in his community. His brother Steve joined in 1969 to help expand the business, and by 1972, the chain had 14 stores and added self-service gasoline, turning a hometown dream into a growing legend.

Sheetz now operates over 750 stores across the U.S., all open 24/7, with locations in Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

An official opening timeline has not yet been announced, as Ruffner said the project is still going through outreach and approval stages.
