Jacksonville’s Southside is set to get a new destination for families looking to burn off some energy, with NRG Adventure Park planning to open at Southside Commons.
The indoor entertainment concept is coming to the former Bealls space at 860 Commerce Center Drive, within the Southside Commons shopping center. NRG’s website lists the Jacksonville location at 660 Commerce Center Drive, the center’s general address, and currently identifies it as opening soon.
The planned Jacksonville park will occupy roughly 80,000 square feet, according to the shopping center’s leasing materials and local permitting information. Earlier this year, the city was reviewing an interior demolition permit to prepare the former department store space for the NRG build-out.
NRG describes its parks as indoor adventure destinations built around active play rather than a traditional trampoline-only experience. Attractions across the brand include dodgeball, basketball, foam pits, ropes courses, harnessed climbing, zip lines, a ninja course, soft play, ball pits and other activities.
The company also offers programming geared toward different age groups, including Toddler Rush, as well as Neon Nights and Sensory Exploration sessions at participating locations. Birthday parties, group events, fundraisers and other private events are also part of the concept.
Memberships are another part of the NRG model, with options that include access to the park’s attractions, discounts and member events.
The Jacksonville location is part of NRG’s wider expansion across the country. The company currently lists Jacksonville among its upcoming parks, alongside locations in states including Florida, New Jersey, Minnesota, Texas and others.
There is currently no opening date posted for the Jacksonville location.
For now, the project represents another new use for a former big-box retail space in Jacksonville, with the 80,000-square-foot former Bealls building set to become a large-scale indoor entertainment destination.
