A handcrafted donut shop plans to sweeten up Lenox Hill with a new location.
Doughnut Plant, dubbed “doughnuts of the gods” by The New York Times, will open at 1285 1st Ave. near E. 69th St., according to New Openings NYC.
Founded in 1994 by Mark Isreal, the shop began in a Lower East Side basement, where Isreal made donuts using his grandfather’s recipes and delivered them by bicycle to neighborhood coffee shops.
What started as a small-batch operation has since expanded to Manhattan locations in Grand Central Terminal and the Lower East Side, as well as outposts in Brooklyn, Williamsburg and Long Island City.
Doughnut Plant serves a variety of light, airy yeast-raised donuts in circular and square shapes, topped with fresh fruit and nuts and made daily. The shop is known for its original crème brûlée donut, filled with homemade vanilla bean custard and individually torched to caramelize the sugar topping for a signature crunch.
Gluten-free and vegan options also are available for guests.

An official opening date has not yet been announced, but signage on the building reads, “Opening soon.”
