Located at 29 Third St N in St. Petersburg, Mary Margaret’s Olde Irish Tavern has been exploding in popularity—so much so that owner Pete Boland is preparing to expand the bar into the space next door.
“On a busy Friday night, the challenge at Mary Margaret’s Olde Irish Tavern is not finding a good pint of Guinness,” said coverage of the expansion published by St. Pete Rising. “It is finding a place to sit, order dinner, or even make it to the restroom.”
To deal with this problem, Mary Margaret’s will expand into the space next door, at 21 Third St N, that is currently home to Top Slice Pizzeria.
Mary Margaret’s is named in honor of Boland’s grandmother, who was herself connected to the pub’s space.
“Named for Pete’s grandmother, Mary Margaret Prescott, whose beauty salon sat inside these 4 walls decades prior, Mary’s sought to be the quintessential Irish pub in Tampa Bay that celebrates all aspects of Celtic Irish Culture, which led our founders to make the pilgrimage to the homeland and beyond to find what made an Irish Pub truly authentic,” says the Mary Margaret’s website.
The Mary Margaret’s menu features shareable small plates like Crowley’s Reuben Egg Rolls and Curried Chicken Chips, handhelds like the Olde Pub Chicken Club and the Guinness Burger (Guinness infused black angus beef, grilled shrooms, Irish cheddar, romaine lettuce & tomato on a Pretzilla Roll), and other Irish-pub classics like Fish & Chips, Shepherd’s Pie, and Boland’s Bangers n’ Mash.
“The Irish pub currently occupies about 1,600 square feet, and the 1,400-square-foot addition will more than double its seating capacity with roughly 50 new seats, a second 12-seat bar, more patio tables, and additional restrooms,” the coverage continues.
The expanded space is working to open by Christmastime, “or at least before the pub’s seventh anniversary in February and the rush surrounding St. Patrick’s Day.”
