Located at 2805 N Tamiami Trail, Shelf Indulgence Used Book Cafe was a book lover’s paradise, offering a selection of secondhand books in a cozy atmosphere with coffee, sandwiches, baked goods, and more. It closed on May 17 of this year.

“Thank you for being a part of our journey friends,” said a post published to Instagram in April, announcing the details of the closure.

Since then, the space has remained unused. But signs point to something new taking shape in the former Shelf Indulgence space soon.

This week, What Now came across plan review documents submitted by Sun and Salt LLC for a new restaurant project at 2805 N Tamiami Trail. It’s called Comptoir.

Comptoir was a new word for us, so we went to look it up: it translates to the English word counter. An example phrase from the Cambridge Dictionary is “le comptoir d’un café”—that is, “the counter in a cafe.”

What Now reached out to the owner of the cafe this weekend to ask about plans for Comptoir’s opening and the details on its menu offerings. We’re hoping to hear back soon, so stay tuned for more details!
