A private luxury training and wellness studio is taking shape in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.
Founded by Matthew Sauerhoff, The LIV Method will open its newest studio at 2 Gansevoort St., expanding its footprint beyond its existing locations in Midtown and the Upper East Side.
“The landlord was looking for a proven track record, a very good wellness operator to come and build a wellness concept in their space. My wife and I are ‘yes people.’ She’s my business partner. When we first toured, the space was just absolutely stunning; it felt like a cathedral. We also love the neighborhood; it’s got so much charm.” Sauerhoff told Whatnow New York City.
Sauerhoff started the company 10 years ago as a personal trainer. The studio specializes in one-on-one personal training, with programs spanning strength training, conditioning, recovery and long-term wellness tailored to each client’s needs and abilities.
“Everybody’s journey starts with an initial phone call where we dive deeply into their needs, their fears, and their motivations so that we can be very intentional about who we match them with as a good partner. That partner becomes the quarterback of all their personal health and wellness needs,” he said.
Sauerhoff described strength training and conditioning as just “the tip of the iceberg,” explaining how the team goes beyond traditional fitness to incorporate behavioral science, recovery modalities, stress management, breathwork and nutrition.
“We create an ecosystem of wellness,” he said.
The new 12,000-square-foot studio features 16-foot vaulted ceilings and expansive windows, allowing natural light to flood the studio, a requirement for all LIV Method locations.
The studio will also include the brand’s Ritual concept, a dedicated recovery space offering a traditional Swedish sauna, cold plunges, rain showers and practitioner-led treatments, including massage therapy.
Sauerhoff looks forward to bringing LIV Method’s approach to wellness to Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.
“What’s been really rewarding is for me to see these spaces come to life. I’ve seen it become a third space for the community. It really becomes a place where people can show up with like-minded people and take care of themselves with people who genuinely care about their outcomes as much as they do,” he said.
The team broke ground Oct. 19 and plans to open the studio by mid-January as construction moves forward.
