Taqueando, an all-you-can-eat taco tasting festival, is popping up in DTLA starting Thursday, October 22, for a five-week stint. Taqueando — which launched with its first event in 2019 — has made the now-shuttered Church & State space its home, at 1850 Industrial Street, in a slightly different format. Church & State closed its doors nearly a year ago.

“While mass gatherings aren’t possible, Taqueando’s organizers are keeping the spirit of the event alive with Taqueando Takeover, a five-week rotating pop-up of taqueros and taqueras curated by Bill Esparza (a James Beard Award winner in journalism for his coverage of the Los Angeles taco scene) at the former Church & State restaurant space in Downtown LA,” a spokesperson told What Now Los Angeles in an email.

Each week will feature a special guest and special menus available for takeout and for dine-in on a first-come, first-served basis on the restaurant’s patio from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The bar will also be open for dine-in and take out.

Lineup/Schedule:

  • Week 1 (10/22 – 10/24) – Chef Poncho Martinez of Poncho’s Tlayudas joins for three nights of Oaxacan cuisine from the Valles Centrales and Sierra Norte regions.
  • Week 2 (10/29 – 10/31) – Surf and Turf Taco Night with Mariscos Jalisco and Tacos El Ruso serving their signature shrimp and carne asada tacos, respectively.
  • Week 3 (11/5 – 11/7)- Chef Priscilla Curiel, San Diego’s birria queen, is bringing Tuetano Taqueria to DTLA for three nights.
  • Week 4 (11/12 – 11/14)- Chef Eduardo Ruiz (Corazon y Miel, Chica’s Tacos) presents three nights of Modern Mexican-American tacos.
  • Week 5 (11/18 – 11/21) – Chef Ray Garcia (Broken Spanish, BS Taqueria) shines a light on Alta California tacos for a four-night run.
