This year, the Mingei International Museum at Balboa Park will finally reopen its doors following a nearly three-year “transformation project.”

“Right now we’re looking at a summer opening,” Mingei spokesperson Toni Robin told What Now San Diego.

The reported $52 million renovation adds a K-12 education center for young students, a “multipurpose theatre space,” courtyard areas for outdoor dining and a revamped food and beverage area.

The “Bistro” and “Coffee Café” will not be operated by Mingei International, but instead will be run by yet-to-be-determined outside vendors, according to Robin.

The Bistro restaurant will be open to both indoor and outdoor seating, once COVID-19 regulations allow for it. There will be a full-service bar serving alcoholic beverages in the restaurant.
