Developer Gene Kansas plans to rehabilitate historic site.
Condesa Coffee, a “coffee and cocktails” spot in the Old Fourth Ward, Thursday in a press release announced plans to open a new location on Auburn Avenue in the Atlanta Daily World Building.
Gene Kansas, commercial real estate developer, is completing a “historic rehabilitation” of the landmark building, according to the announcement.
“The Atlanta Daily World Building has been a part of our historical fabric for over 100 years,” Kansas said in the announcement.
“From 1918 to 1935, it was home to the Virgil Coffee Company. With the proven power that coffee plays in developing community, and because of the building’s legacy, I cannot think of a better use and a better group than Condesa Coffee…”
Kansas purchased the former home of the Atlanta Daily World, an 86-year-old African-American-owned daily newspaper company, early 2014, according to the AJC.
The second Condesa location, at 145 Auburn Avenue, is slated to open January 2015, and like the brand’s first location, will feature Counter Culture Coffee.
Condesa opened its first store on the corner of Boulevard and Freedom Parkway in 2010 owned by Georgia Institute of Technology graduates Daniela Staiculescu, Amin Rida, Moe Reda, and Octavian Stan.
