A fast-casual Chinese chain appears to be working on a new location in the Peach State.

Panda Express is planned for 6830 Midland Commons Boulevard in Columbus, according to construction documents. The restaurant would be nearly 2,700 square feet and include indoor seating for 52 people.

This would be the second Panda Express in Columbus, with an existing location at 5295 Whittlesey Boulevard, about six miles away from the proposed new one. The company has several other new Georgia locations in the works, including in Lawrenceville, Flowery Branch, and Commerce.

Panda Express was founded in Glendale, California, in 1983. There are more than 2,300 locations worldwide, including more than 70 in Georgia. The company is the largest family-owned and operated Asian dining concept in the country. Besides some non-traditional locations (like those at airports), all Panda Express restaurants are owned by Panda Restaurant Group.

The menu includes dishes like orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, broccoli beef and kung pao chicken, plus sides like rice, chow mein and vegetables.

The estimated start date on the construction of the new restaurant is “TBD,” but construction bids will be accepted until Dec. 17, 2024.

Columbus is a city in western Georgia.
