Mata’s Mexican Restaurant, an independently owned and operated establishment, is soon coming to San Marcos, according to recent public records. The restaurant will be located at 1305 S Old Bastrop Hwy, #101, in a growing area of the city, southeast of the center.

“We’re from the area, so we’re familiar with the community,” owner Jose Mata tells What Now Austin.

When asked about the menu’s characteristics, Mata explains, “We’re having a concept of homemade Mexican food and fruteria, serving six different aguas frescas.”

And why open now?

“Why not?” Mata responds. “Any moment is a good moment to jump into a business opportunity, and now is the perfect time to provide people what they want — homemade Mexican food with a frutaria on the side.”

So, when can locals expect this exciting new concept to be up and running?

“We are opening at the end of August.”
