According to public filings, Layne’s Chicken Fingers plans to open at 6934 W. Adams Ave., in Temple. What Now Austin spoke with franchisee Shahroz Khan, who said he is targeting August 29 for the opening, pending permits. Known for its chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, and Texas toast, Layne’s has built a loyal following across Texas since relaunching as a franchise concept.
The location is part of an ambitious expansion plan. Khan and his family partners are aiming to open 29 Layne’s locations across the Austin area over the next 15 years—a growth strategy that reflects the group’s confidence in both the brand and the region.
To celebrate the grand opening, the first 50 customers through the door may receive free Layne’s for a year, Khan confirmed.
Khan, who is operating the franchise alongside his family members, said the decision to bring Layne’s to Temple came down to the community itself. “We just like the area, the location, the people, the community,” he told What Now Austin. “We’re excited to serve the community. It’s gonna be fun.”
That community-focused approach extends beyond the menu. Khan said the restaurant is committed to hiring and training first-time workers, giving young people and students an opportunity to land their first job regardless of prior experience.
“For people who have no experience, we train them,” he told What Now Austin. “We build them from the ground up and give them their first job.”
Khan said helping people develop new skills is one of the most rewarding aspects of operating the business—not just building a restaurant, but helping build careers.
