Olamaie, an Austin Michelin-starred restaurant, is set to close its doors. The restaurant owner announced the closure through social media and will serve its last meal on July 19.
Olamaie to Close in Austin
After 12 years at 1610 San Antonio St. in Austin, Olamaie is shutting down. Owned by Michael Fojtasek called it impossible to convey the sentiments as he shared the closure news with the community.
Through the announcement post, he thanked guests and community members for choosing Olamaie. The post also read, “We’re proud to have been given the confidence of our purveyors to represent their products the best we can. Our mission has always been to offer excellence through our warmth. We’re proud of what we have accomplished.”
The owner encouraged diners to visit before the restaurant’s final day of service. According to a report by CultureMap Austin, Olamaie’s sister steakhouse also closed in May following the end of its partnership with South Congress Hotel, leaving MaieB Hospitality with two remaining concepts.
MaieB Hospitality’s remaining concepts include the Gimme Burger food truck and the Albert Hotel in Fredericksburg.

More Than a Decade of Southern Fine Dining

Olamaie opened its doors in 2014 and earned recognition from local and national publications over the following decade. The restaurant is known for its contemporary take on Southern cuisine. The restaurant received numerous local and national mentions in the press, including Austin American-Statesman’s ‘Best Restaurant in Austin’ in 2015, 2017, and 2019.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Olamaie received a Michelin star in the inaugural 2024 Texas Michelin Guide. Founder Michael Fojtasek earned James Beard Award finalist recognition for Best Chef Southwest in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
The restaurant’s menu features a four-course meal with 3 savory courses and 1 dessert course. The menu changed regularly to highlight seasonal interpretations of Southern cuisine.
A seasonal prix fixe menu, bar and beverage menu, and extensive wine list attracted customers for frequent visits. The announcement prompted messages of support from customers in the restaurant’s social media comments.
