AutoZone is making a notable push across the greater Austin region, with two new-construction projects in the works: a store in Lago Vista and another in Smithville.
What Now Austin reached out to AutoZone’s representatives, but did not receive a response before publication. Founded in 1979 in Forrest City, Arkansas, AutoZone now operates more than 6,700 stores across the United States, selling automotive replacement parts, accessories, and maintenance items for both DIY customers and commercial clients.
Lago Vista (Travis County)
The first project is planned at 7600 Lohmans Ford Road in Lago Vista, a lakeside community on the north shore of Lake Travis in Travis County. The 6,800-square-foot store is expected to begin construction in December 2026, with completion targeted for May 2027. Lago Vista has no existing AutoZone location.
Smithville (Bastrop County)
A second new store is a new 7,381-square-foot store at 1623 Northeast Loop 230 in Smithville, Bastrop County. According to public filings, construction is scheduled to begin in January 2027 and be completed by June 2027. Smithville, located roughly 45 miles southeast of Austin along the Colorado River, currently has no AutoZone location.
AutoZone continues to expand in the Texas market, with additional growth planned in the Dallas area. Opening dates for the Smithville and Lago Vista locations have not yet been announced.
