What Now has followed the expansion of Charleston’s El Vago Mexican Kitchen as the restaurant has expanded across South Carolina for several years now. As the restaurant prepares to launch its next location in Greenville next week, the team behind it—called El Vago Hospitality Group—is working on a brand-new concept in Columbia.
El Vago Hospitality Group has acquired Tsunami, the restaurant located at 1290 Bower Parkway in Columbia, and will transition it to a new concept: Kahlo Mexican Kitchen and Sushi.
“We’re excited to bring fresh energy and a new vibe to Harbison while continuing to serve the Tsunami favorites you already know and enjoy,” said a post by Tsunami on Instagram, announcing the change of ownership. “Coming in January 2027, this location will become Kahlo Modern Mexican Kitchen & Sushi—an exciting concept combining modern Mexican cuisine, sushi and a vibrant dining experience.”
The transition is bringing a number of new features to the restaurant, the post adds, including new and updated food, a full bar with cocktails, lunch service, an “updated patio experience,” live DJs, and other special events.
“Our goal is to be more than just another restaurant,” the post says. “We want to become an active part of the Harbison community, support the people around us and create a place where everyone feels welcome.”
