A historic chocolate shop with deep local roots is returning to Beaufort this fall.
The Chocolate Tree at 507 Carteret St. will reopen under the ownership of Tim and Deanna Green after closing in May 2025. Tim Green is the eldest son of founder Patricia Green, who launched the confectionery business, according to The Island Packet.
The team will renovate and update the space while preserving its tradition and charm.
The Chocolate Tree is known for producing more than 60 varieties of chocolate on-site, along with fudge, pralines, brittle and English toffee. The shop also offers fan favorites including caramel apples, seasonal chocolate-covered strawberries and holiday treats. Those signature recipes will remain unchanged.
The team plans to revive “all-you-can-eat” chocolate nights, where guests can purchase a ticket to sample the shop’s offerings. They will also introduce chocolate-making classes and expand into online sales and shipping for select products.
The legendary shop opened in 1980. It supplied chocolate to the set of Forrest Gump during filming in the city in 1993, and Academy Award winner Sally Field and Grammy Award-winning group The Pointer Sisters visited the shop.
Patricia Green even won an honor of her own, earning induction into the International Candy Hall of Fame in 2010.
An official reopening date has not been announced, however follow The Chocolate Tree along on Facebook for sweet updates.
