A local Mexican restaurant chain appears to be cooking up a new location.

Tiki Taco is planned for 3760 Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston, according to a recently filed permit for the sale and on-premises consumption of beer, wine and liquor. The space at the Windsor Hill Crossing shopping center was formerly occupied by a now-closed location of Nigel’s Good Food.

This would be the fifth location for Tiki Taco, which can currently be found at three spots in Summerville (1761 N Main Street, 1525 Old Trolley Road and 1131 College Park Road) and an existing one in North Charleston (7089 Rivers Avenue).

The menu includes a variety of street tacos, tortas, quesadillas, sopes, burritos, fajitas and more, including an American section of the menu with chicken tenders, burgers, hot dogs and Philly cheesesteaks. Beverages include margaritas, daiquiris, beer and aguas frescas.

Tiki Taco is owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo Shawn and Gabriella Healy.

“Having operated restaurants from an early age, starting with his father’s family restaurant, Sharkey’s Pizzeria & Subs in Ocean Isle Beach, Shawn has proven himself a leader in the industry striving to implement all of his restaurant experience into a creative, fun, and delicious location for folks to enjoy some of the best Mexican cuisines the low country has to offer!” according to the restaurant website.

Prior to opening Tiki Taco, he managed Bennett’s Calabash Seafood Restaurant in Myrtle Beach for 15 years then became an area director for BoJangles, overseeing six locations of the chicken franchise.
