Founded in 1972 by Stewart Spinks, Spinx is a longstanding South Carolina brand that is finding its moment as it—together with brands like Buc-ee’s, Casey’s, and Parker’s Kitchen—proves that the convenience-store-plus-gas-station-plus-quick-restaurant combination is a definite winner.
The State reported this week on a new Spinx location that opened its doors in Lexington on July 30, at 296 Charter Oak Road.
“Lexington – your new Spinx is now OPEN!” says a Facebook post referenced in the coverage. “We are looking forward to serving this community.”
As it turns out, Spinx has still more plans to serve Lexington. More State reporting shows plans for another new Spinx at 1544 S Lake Drive in the Red Bank area.
“Through the years Spinx grew its operations, particularly as it relates to food options,” the coverage says. “The company has been known for its fried chicken, which it deems ‘legendary,’ with bone-in, tenders and nuggets available. Spinx also carries a number of breakfast items, including chicken biscuits, sausage biscuits, hash browns and more.”
That is, of course, in addition to gas-station, car-wash, convenience-store, and other services.
“[Stewart Spinks] took a leap of faith after working for Shell Oil Company and purchased his first gas station at the intersection of Laurens Road and E Washington Street in Greenville, SC,” says the Spinx website. “Over the years, the company has grown to incorporate convenience stores, car wash and the legendary Spinx fried chicken. Since the beginning, Stewart’s goal has always been to make customers’ lives easier.”
