Nearly a month after a fire forced a temporary shutdown, Kindred is focusing on repairs, restoration, and a handful of operational upgrades ahead of the Davidson restaurant’s anticipated return.

According to reporting by Unpretentious Palate, Kindred, located at 131 N. Main Street in Davidson, experienced significant water damage after a fire in an upstairs bathroom. While the fire itself was quickly contained, the resulting damage has required extensive cleanup and reconstruction throughout the restaurant.

The outlet reports that owners Joe and Katy Kindred are using the closure to make improvements that will primarily benefit staff while keeping the guest experience largely unchanged.

“We’re going to make some improvements,” Katy Kindred told Unpretentious Palate. “I think people who come to Kindred often will probably notice some of the improvements, but we also want it to remain pretty familiar.”

According to the report, planned upgrades include reconfiguring the bar area to create additional workspace for bartenders, installing a new drink rail system, and updating the upstairs cabinetry.

Unpretentious Palate reports that the restaurant estimates repairs will take approximately 12 weeks. If that timeline holds, Kindred could reopen in late August or early September, although Katy Kindred told the publication that contractor schedules and material lead times could affect the projected reopening date.

For now, the team remains focused on completing repairs and implementing several behind-the-scenes improvements before welcoming guests back. WhatNow Charlotte will continue to follow updates on the reopening as more information becomes available.
