IKEA’s South Charlotte Plan and Order Point with Pick-up will close less than two years after opening. The closure comes as IKEA continues expanding its small-format retail strategy and investing in digital shopping services across the U.S.
IKEA South Charlotte Plan and Order Point with Pick-up is Closing
IKEA has announced it will close its South Charlotte Plan and Order Point with Pick-up at Promenade on Providence, located at 10844 Providence Road. Unlike a traditional IKEA store, the location operates as a Plan and Order Point with Pick-up.
IKEA said the move aligns with its broader U.S. retail strategy, which includes expanding smaller-format stores and digital planning services.
The South Charlotte store opened in October 2024. It is designed as a smaller-format planning studio where customers can meet with specialists to plan kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and living spaces.
The brand’s emphasis is on making furniture shopping easier for consumers to access the IKEA service closer to home.
The location will continue accepting planning appointments through its final day of operation. Customers with ongoing planning projects can complete them before the store closes or transfer them to another IKEA location. Until the store closes, order pick-up will also continue.
IKEA’s full-size Charlotte store at 8300 IKEA Boulevard will remain open. The brand has encouraged customers to visit and explore the showroom, marketplace, restaurant, Swedish Food Market, and children’s play area.
IKEA’s Bigger U.S. Strategy
The South Charlotte closure comes as IKEA continues reshaping its U.S. footprint through a long-term growth strategy. The retailer previously announced the closure of its location at The Domain.
The company opened 14 U.S. retail locations during FY2025, including small-format stores and nine Plan & Order Points with pick-up services. The retailer also invested in its digital planning services.
IKEA will open 10 more locations in the United States, bringing its presence to markets including Chicago, Los Angeles, Tulsa, and Fort Collins.
IKEA said it will continue investing in its U.S. business through new store openings, e-commerce, fulfillment, and customer service, even as it evaluates individual locations.
