A play cafe trend is gaining traction in Chicago this year with a new West Town addition.

From their social media, Mini City Play Cafe is coming to 1701 W Grand Avenue in early fall. The space will include playhouses and a full cafe serving coffee from Magnifico Coffee Roasters. Co-owner Amandou Lam told What Now Chicago the cafe will open sometime in August.

Lam and Adam Motz, parents of two twins, wanted to introduce a concept for both young children and parents that encourages creativity. It will be for children ages 0-6 and can host special events, classes and birthday parties.

“We wanted to create a space that encourages imaginative play while also giving parents a place where they can genuinely relax and connect,” Lam said.

Magnifico Coffee Roasters is a family owned Columbian coffee company at 3063 N Milwaukee Avenue in Avondale. The coffees served have not been released, but guests can expect lattes and espressos.

The play cafe will debut at the intersection of W Grand Avenue and N Pauline Street. This is right across from Uncle Mike’s Place Filipino restaurant. The stretch of W Grand Avenue is considered the south end of West Town.

“Our goal is to create something that feels special, intentional and lasting for the community,” Lam said.
