The business will be leaving the area, but not for long.
The Sobstad team has announced their St. Clair Shores location at 21509 Harper Avenue will be closing on Oct. 31 this year. The business sells and repairs sails for many types of boats. Owner Gary Jacoby said he is not announcing a new address yet, but it will debut sometime in spring 2027.
The business has been serving the St. Clair Shores area for more than 40 years. Started by Jacoby, he wanted to create a business that gives special attention to sails of all kinds.
“Today, Sobstad continues to offer customers what is considered the industry standard relative to overall quality of product, attention to detail, competitiveness of price, and brevity of production cycle. Sobstad provides a sparkling sail product worldwide for top-echelon racers, offshore and coastal cruisers, and manufacturers of racing and cruising yachts,” says the description on his website.
Jacoby’s shop is currently on the west side of Harper Avenue, next to Glow Salon. Luxx Lavender Photography is also at this plaza, and is also across from Sirona Wellness Spa. This is close to the border of Grosse Pointe Woods.
From a recent Facebook post, Jacoby said all items at the store that have been worked on must be collected by Oct. 15. For more updates on Sobstad and the new location, visit their Facebook page.
