Lomichi is bringing a second sweets shop to the Greater Houston community. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, Lomichi is expected to open in Asiatown inside Diho Square at 9188 Bellaire Blvd., Suite O.
The permit further details that construction on the new Lomichi eatery is currently underway and is slated to wrap up in mid-September. The scope of the work calls for an interior remodel of a new dessert shop. If all goes well with permitting and the estimated $ 110,000 construction project, the new Lomichi should be open by this fall.
What Now Houston briefly spoke with the brand, which confirmed the opening. What Now also reached out to owner Mia Su to learn more about the exciting new development, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
Lomichi started out as Mia’s Goodies. In late 2024, the business officially changed its name to Lomichi. The name “Lomichi” is derived from the Cantonese pronunciation of glutinous rice ball dessert. The rebrand allowed the shop to focus entirely on crafting fresh, scratch-made mochi in a variety of classic and modern flavors.
Specializing in handcrafted Asian sweets, the shop is best known for its ultra-soft mochi (glutinous rice desserts) and flaky, cream-filled pastries. They gained a local following for traditional Chinese and Cantonese desserts, such as fresh Lo-mai-chi (glutinous rice balls), savory Hong Kong street snacks, and light, flaky cream puffs.
“Lomichi (糯咪糍), the beloved Cantonese rice ball dessert shop from Sugar Land, is opening its second location at D2 Houston this year,” the Diho Square website reads.
“Known for its irresistibly chewy glutinous rice balls that can be filled with anything you crave — from classic red bean and black sesame to playful ice cream to exotic durian and more surprises — Lomichi celebrates creativity in every bite. Stay tuned for grand opening details. Get ready, the dessert scene in Houston is about to get wonderfully sticky-sweet!”
Lomichi is expected to open in the Greater Sharpstown area, inside Diho Square at 9188 Bellaire Blvd., Suite O, this fall.
