Phoenix Bar is on the move! According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the new Phoenix Bar will remain in the Montrose community. But, instead of its Winlow Place subdivision digs, Phoenix Bar will open in Neartown at 1643 Richmond Ave.

The permit details that the estimated $250,00 construction project is currently underway and slated to wrap up in SeptemberIf all goes well with permitting and construction of the 1,577-square-foot space, the new and improved Phoenix Bar should be throwing soccer-enthralled events by this fall.

After 19 years of business at 1915 Westheimer Road, owner Vu Truong has decided to move due to leasing issues.

What Now Houston reached out to Truong to learn more about the move and the improvements to the venue. Truong confirmed the move, but was unable to share further details by the time of this publication.

“After 19 incredible years at the Phoenix on Westheimer, we’re stepping into our next chapter with excitement and optimism. While 2025 has been a tough year for our industry, we’re choosing growth, resilience, and community,” an Instagram post on the Phoenix Brewpub Instagram page reads.

“With a lease renewal no longer making sense in our current space, we’ve decided to relocate just down the street to Richmond Ave—and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead.”

The Phoenix on Westheimer originally opened in 2006 as the Firkin and Phoenix. Traditionally a British-style pub, it quickly gained momentum with soccer fans and Houston’s beer-loving community. Phoenix dropped the Firkin name after eight years of service. In 2015, another transition happened. The Phoenix bar became a brewpub with house-brewed beers now on the menu.

“Welcome, friends. The Phoenix on Westheimer is formerly known as the Firkin and Phoenix. Firkin Die-Hards will always call it the Firkin,” the Phoenix website reads.

“Many of you have noticed the cosmetic changes that came with the name change. It’s the still same great bar, owners and staff. For those who have never stopped in, come and make it your home away from home.”

Beyond the brews, Phoenix Bar has and will offer a pretty extensive menu.

“Our Kitchen is led by Chef Erik, who’s been a valuable team member since 2010! The Phoenix isn’t just your neighborhood watering hole, our full kitchen aims to please even the most critical guests. To the surprise of new guests, our food is made fresh and to the order,” the bar’s website reads.

“Simple, Tasty, and Unpretentious. Check out our updated menu…  Our food inspirations come from our travels, our staff, and more importantly our patrons.  It’s not fusion.. just food from the heart.”

Offering everything from plant-based dishes to a variety of beef & pork dishes like the Chimichurri Wagyu Sliders, the Phoenix sure does have a little bit of something for everyone.

But, perhaps the biggest draw is the events! Events are constantly updated. So, keep your eyes open for what’s to come at the new venue on Richmond Ave.

Phoenix Bar is anticipated to open in its new home at 1643 Richmond Ave by this fall.
