Red velvet waffles, Cajun-smothered shrimp and grits, key lime waffles and a chicken and avocado melt are among the dishes planned for a new Jacksonville restaurant coming to Southpoint.

Lemon Leaf Café, owned by John Tutson, known professionally as Executive Chef John Cartel, is planned for 6620 Southpoint Blvd. S. in Jacksonville.

City records show plans for the restaurant were filed in September, putting the project in the development process.

Cartel recently shared what appears to be the café’s official breakfast menu on Instagram, giving a first look at what customers can expect from the concept.

The breakfast menu features several familiar favorites alongside dishes with a more creative twist. Traditional options include a classic breakfast plate, breakfast bowl, pancakes and omelets, while the signature section includes Cajun-smothered shrimp and grits, red velvet waffles, Oreo waffle breakfast and key lime waffle breakfast.

Breakfast sandwiches will include a bacon, egg and cheese croissant, turkey, egg and cheese sandwich and a chicken and avocado melt.

For lighter options, the menu lists homemade oatmeal and a yogurt bowl with granola and fresh fruit. Customers will also be able to customize their meals with different protein, egg and side options, including turkey bacon, sausage, Canadian bacon, avocado and sautéed vegetables.

The café is part of Cartel’s broader culinary work in Jacksonville. His Chef John Cartel platform highlights private chef services, catering and a food truck, including a menu centered around his signature crab boil wings and other dishes.

For now, the restaurant remains in the planning stages, and an opening date has not been announced.

As work moves forward, Lemon Leaf Café is giving Jacksonville diners an early taste of what’s to come through its menu, with more details expected as the Southpoint project develops.
