St. Augustine has been waiting for the return of a restaurant on the water at 135 Avenida Menendez since Santa Maria Restaurant was lost to Hurricane Matthew. That was about ten years ago. In the time since, the restaurant structure sat abandoned for some time before being demolished to make way for something new.
That something is a new restaurant called the Wharf. It’s a project that has been taking shape over the years—and it’s quite a few years now: the first post on The Wharf’s Instagram page dates to August 6, 2018.
After lots of time and lots of work, the project is taking shape. This spring, Totally St. Augustine posted a sneak-peak video of a space with colorfully painted walls, wood floors, chandeliers, and a great few of the water.
“SNEAK PEEK of the much anticipated @wharfstaugustine—the location of the former Santa Maria Restaurant!”
What Now reached out on Friday to owner David White to ask about plans for the opening. White said the Wharf is expected to launch, at long last, this November.
White says it’s still too soon to share details about the Wharf’s menu, or indeed anything else—but the important thing is an opening is now finally in sight!
You can keep up with the Wharf by following @wharfstaugustine on Instagram.
