Blue Collar restaurant in Miami has officially closed its doors on May 17. The longtime neighborhood favorite served its final dinner service over the weekend. The team behind the restaurant shared the closure announcement on social media.
Blue Collar Permanently Closes in Miami’s MiMo District
Located in the MiMo neighborhood, Blue Collar was a well-known comfort food restaurant. The restaurant served hearty American dishes, popular desserts, and a wide selection of vegetable sides.
In an official social media post, the restaurant owner, Chef Daniel Serfer, shared the news of the closure. In a May 15 Instagram post, Serfer wrote, “After many unforgettable years, this Sunday will be our final day of service on Biscayne Blvd. There are truly no words to express how grateful we are for the love, loyalty, and support Miami has shown us throughout this journey.”

He highlighted his journey and the importance of the restaurant. Speaking about the staff, he stated, “Just as important as my family at home has been the family we built inside these walls. Most of our staff have been with us for more than 10 years. We grew together, celebrated together, struggled together, and created something that was always about more than food.”
The owner also expressed gratitude for the Miami food community and mentioned, “Thank you for letting us be part of your lives and your tables for so many years. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for giving this little restaurant a lifetime of love.”
In the post, Chef Serfer did not share any specific reason for closing.
The Story Behind Chef Danny Serfer’s Blue Collar
The restaurant was founded in 2012 by chef Daniel Serfer and quickly became a local favorite spot. Although Serfer initially considered a career in law, he ultimately pursued his passion for cooking.
He was trained under the renowned chef Allen Susser at Chef Allen’s. “After a brief stint in New York City and missing home, Serfer returned to Miami and embraced his passion for comfort food, opening Blue Collar in January 2012 on what was, at the time, a less-than-glamorous stretch of US1 in Miami’s MiMo District,” stated a Louisiana Seafood article.
In 2024, Blue Collar moved into a larger space on Biscayne Boulevard. The 4,000-square-foot space was designed as a casual restaurant with a large kitchen and full bar, according to a Miami Herald report.
Miami food influencer Burger Beast also reacted to the closure on Instagram, writing, “Chef Danny Serfer built something rare: a restaurant with soul, personality, consistency, and food that actually made people feel something with zero gimmicks. Just incredible comfort food done the right way.”

“Over the years, I celebrated birthdays there, dragged first-timers there, took out-of-towners there, and probably recommended it to thousands of people,” read the post.
The sudden shutdown of the restaurant has left the longtime customers in shock. The Miami food community has lost a notable spot with the closure of the Blue Collar restaurant.
