Bruno’s Tavern is set to reopen later this summer under new ownership, with a team of longtime managers taking the reins of the historic New Orleans bar.

The tavern, located at 7538 Maple Street closed in April following years of financial difficulties. Former owner David Melius has now sold the business to Will Wilson, Eric Orlando, David Demarest, Caufman Talley and Greg Buisson, three of whom previously managed Bruno’s during Melius’ four decades of ownership.

Melius, who operated Bruno’s from 1983 until selling the business in 2020, said he is pleased to see the tavern return to the hands of people who know its history. According to NOLA.com, the previous ownership group defaulted on the terms of the 2020 sale, leading to legal action before the property changed hands again.

Melius said the new owners plan to restore Bruno’s welcoming atmosphere while bringing back the sports-focused environment that longtime patrons remember.

“We hope to return it to its previous glory days, with a strong sports-oriented atmosphere and support of all the local college athletics teams,” Melius said.
