Cannabis Dispensary Planned for the Lower East Side Aims to Have Positive Community Impact

Tru Cannabis plans to partner with LES organizations and provide a portion of profits to area non-profits

A cannabis dispensary being planned of 68 Clinton St. in the Lower East Side has the stated goal of being a positive impact on the surrounding community. According to a permit filing with Community Board 3, Tru Cannabis aim to do more than simply sell cannabis, cannabis infused items, and cannabis accessories. A statement from the owners says that the dispensary views its presence on Clinton Street not merely as a retail operation, but as an opportunity to direct resources back into a community.”

“We are in the process of identifying a formal community-based organization partner on the Lower East Side, with priority given to organizations focused on food access and workforce development,” the owners added. “We plan to allocate a portion of net revenue toward community programs on a recurring basis.”

Community Board 3 is set to take up the matter in early June, and an opening date has not been announced. What Now New York has reached out for more information.
