City Fitness, a Philadelphia-based fitness brand, is expanding into Hoboken, New Jersey, with two new locations planned as the company opens its first clubs outside Philadelphia.
The expansion includes a 35,000-square-foot location at Maxwell Place, 1000 Maxwell Lane, and a second club at 38 Jackson St. in the Southend neighborhood. Maxwell Place is scheduled to open in fall 2026, while the Southend location is targeted for late 2026 or early 2027, according to City Fitness.
Founded in Philadelphia in 2007, City Fitness currently operates eight clubs across Philadelphia neighborhoods including Northern Liberties, Fishtown, Logan Square, East Market, East Passyunk, Fairmount, Old City and Graduate Hospital. The company says it has more than 24,000 members.
The Hoboken expansion marks the next chapter for the brand, which was founded around the idea that a fitness club should feel like part of the community rather than simply a place to work out. City Fitness identifies three principles across its clubs: Smile, Clean and Cutting Edge.
The Maxwell Place club will feature strength, cardio, functional and power training areas, along with four boutique studios offering programs including Pilates, HIIT, strength training, yoga, indoor cycling and bootcamp workouts. The location will also offer City Fitnessโ CF/Thrive personal and small-group coaching program.
Recovery will also be a major part of the new club. Amenities planned for Maxwell Place include saunas, hydromassage, cryotherapy and massage chairs, along with the Revive Recovery Studio, which will offer additional recovery-focused services and equipment.
The second Hoboken location, planned for 38 Jackson St., will be located in the Southend neighborhood and is expected to open in late 2026 or early 2027. Members with qualifying Hoboken memberships will have access to both clubs once the second location opens.
City Fitnessโ expansion into Hoboken will give the Philadelphia-based brand its first presence outside Pennsylvania while bringing its fitness, coaching and recovery-focused concept to a new market.
