Classic Southern Food Restaurant in Meridian-Kessler to Close This June

Indianapolis’ Root and Bone will permanently shut down after 6 years of operation, set June 7 as its final day.

Root and Bone, located in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood, announced its permanent closure. The southern comfort food restaurant will serve its final meal on June 7, 2026. The restaurant invited the community members to visit and celebrate the final chapter of its journey.

Root & Bone Announces Permanent Closure After 6 Years

After six years of service on College Avenue in Indianapolis, Root and Bone is preparing to say goodbye. The restaurant has been a community staple and is known for its soul food and farm-fresh ingredients.

Through an Instagram post, the restaurant team shared the closure announcement. The team stated, “After six incredible years in Indianapolis, we’ve made the decision to close this chapter of Root & Bone.”

The team wrote an emotional note and reflected on its journey in the city. They also thanked the community for its support.

“Closing this chapter of Root & Bone with full hearts. Thank you for the memories, celebrations, and everyday moments,” added the team.

The eatery will continue its operations through June 7 and encourages customers to visit before its closure.

In the post, the team said, “We have a little more time together, and we plan to finish the same way we started, taking care of you the best way we know how.”

The restaurant team has not shared any official reason for closing.

Celebrity Chefs Behind Root & Bone

Root and Bone was founded by renowned chef duo Chef Janine Booth and Chef Jeff McInnis. Both chefs come with diverse backgrounds of culinary experiences.

Australian-based Chef Booth developed her culinary skills across Europe, Asia, and finally Miami. She has worked in several notable restaurants. In 2013, she competed on Bravo’s “Top Chef” in New Orleans.

While Chef McInnis grew up in Florida and began his career by working in a kitchen as a teenager. He earned his reputation for his work in Miami restaurants. McInnis also appeared on “Top Chef” and has earned multiple James Beard Award nominations.

Chef Booth and Chef McInnis opened the Root and Bone location in New York City in 2014. The restaurant chain was later expanded with more locations, including Puerto Rico, Miami, and Indianapolis.

Root and Bone became a community favorite with its Southern-inspired dishes and traditional American vibe. Popular items on the menu include fried chicken, deviled eggs, and smoky bacon.

With the closure of Root and Bone’s Indianapolis location, a flavorful journey of Southern comfort food comes to an end.
