Known for hosting some of the biggest names in jazz at its iconic original 77-year-old location in Hermosa Beach, featured in the film “Lala Land”, the celebrated The Lighthouse Huntington is preparing to expand with a new outpost in Orange County.
The legendary venue owned by Josh Royal is expected to open in June, at 21022 Pacific Coast Highway, Suite B230. The new location of The Lighthouse Cafe is returning to its original name, dropping “Cafe” from the title and bringing its rich musical legacy, vibrant atmosphere, and traditional American-style food to Orange County’s coastal scene.
The Lighthouse Huntington’s popular standouts will include the Lobster Mac & Cheese, made with cheddar, Gruyère, bacon, breadcrumbs, and chives; the Warm Lobster Roll, served with brown butter aioli and charred lemon; and the Double Smash Burger, topped with grilled onions, American cheese, pickles, and special sauce.
Jazz first arrived at the club on May 29, 1949, when owner John Levine allowed bassist and bandleader Howard Rumsey to host a recurring Sunday jam session as a trial run. The idea quickly took off, leading Rumsey to become the club’s manager and form its house band, the Lighthouse All Stars. The ensemble featured guest appearances from celebrated musicians such as Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, and Miles Davis.
