As more people in Orlando opt for a plant-based diet, a few local entrepreneurs are preparing to open a new restaurant and event space that will serve as a major gathering place for vegans in the Orlando area. Opening at 6129 Old Winter Garden Road before the end of 2026, Flamingo Vegan Cafe will be “a place where the community can gather, do arts and crafts and music, eat vegan food, and have other events,” Harjit, the restaurant’s owner, told What Now on Tuesday.

“I myself am vegan, and my entire family has been vegetarian for generations,” Harjit said. “A lot of restaurants have vegan options, and they’re great, but so often there are cross-contaminations, and you have to send the food back. Flamingo Vegan Cafe is an animal-friendly restaurant where you never have to worry about cross-contamination.”

The restaurant will feature 120 seats inside, plus a large outdoor space for events, farmers and crafters markets, and more. At the heart of Flamingo Vegan Cafe’s mission is the availability of a community gathering place.

“I think it brings some awareness when you have a place you can point to and say, ‘Here’s a great place for your vegan friends,’” Harjit said. “It’s a passion project. There’s not a lot of money in food, so you have to have good reasons to do it. We have a passion for spreading the message of veganism: it’s not just the food, it’s also a way of life. It’s about doing no harm to animals.”

Opening in the Old Winter Garden Road location, Flamingo Vegan Cafe will be situated near several other restaurants, like Saudie’s Restaurant and MG Caribbean Restaurant.
