A popular New York bakery will open its first Philadelphia location this fall.

Somedays Bakery, founded by Peter Phillips, will open at 1601 Walnut St., with franchise owner Dino Porfyris operating the spot.

“It’s a great fit. People are so grateful to get a top-quality pastry when they’re not used to having something like that in their neighborhood. So, to bring that to the market and to the people of Philadelphia is really exciting,” Phillips told What Now Philadelphia.

The bakery currently operates five locations: three in the Queens area, one in Manhattan and one in Montclair, New Jersey. Another Manhattan location is in the works. The brand’s Manhattan locations are its only corporate-owned stores.

Phillips adopted a franchise model to support broader growth while ensuring each operator aligns with the bakery’s vision.

“Somedays Bakery being fully from-scratch locations, it’s not really something you can hand off to just anybody. Having a hands-on owner who has passion for baking, for coffee—it provides a different level of commitment. I want to focus on building really good relationships with these types of franchise partners,” he said.

Phillips also wants to prioritize community engagement so the bakery never “loses that feel of a local bakery.”

The upcoming Philadelphia location will feature the brand’s signature design and menu, mirroring its existing bakeries.

“It’s going to be most of the same, but we’ll definitely do something as an ode to Philadelphia—maybe a take on some kind of Philly cheesesteak croissant. We’ve done that with all our stores, a location-specific item. By large, my goal is to keep the locations uniform. I want guests to get the same experience if they visit one in Queens or one in Philly.”

Somedays Bakery is known for its sweet and savory croissants, made with New Zealand butter, hand-laminated and baked to achieve a crispy, flaky exterior and a soft center. The bakery also offers croissant-based lunch specials, along with cakes, cookies and brownies.

Phillips said he looks forward to expanding the brand into a new state.

“I have really big ambitions for that store. I’m really excited to see what we can do over there. There is a lot of density within Philly. I think the community is really going to rally around us,” he said.

Somedays Bakery plans to open in October. Visit the website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates.
