Handel’s Ice Cream is headed to GSQ, the growing mixed-use development in Goodyear, according to ABC15 Arizona. Franchise owner Joseph Maher told What Now Phoenix the concept is expected to open in early 2027.

“The Goodyear location won’t open until the first quarter of 2027. They just started construction on the building,” Maher said. The location is part of the GSQ development, which continues to add new tenants in Goodyear.

Maher already operates multiple Handel’s locations, including in Phoenix, Peoria, and Surprise, signaling continued expansion for the brand in the West Valley.

Founded in 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio, Handel’s Ice Cream has built a loyal customer base over the decades. The brand began with founder Alice Handel, who used fresh fruit from her own backyard and original recipes to create flavors that quickly became popular.

Today, Handel’s has grown to more than 150 locations across 15 states, and maintains many of its original methods. The brand is known for offering more than 100 flavors, with each store typically featuring around 48 rotating options each month.

As construction progresses, Handel’s will be one of the upcoming additions to GSQ.
