BEST Coffee, the coffee shop Marley Abeyta opened on the mezzanine level of the Portland Food Hall at 827 SW 2nd Avenue, is on the move. The shop has until November under its current lease, after which it needs to vacate the space, and Abeyta has not yet secured a new location.
What Now reported that when Abeyta opened BESTCoffee in the food hall in September, it brought a menu built around espresso drinks, lattes, mochas, and cappuccinos, along with a rotating selection of pastries and pies made by friends. She has worked in coffee since she was 14 and previously spent time at Carnelian Coffee before striking out on her own.
The success of the Portland Food Hall residency proved that Abeyta’s concept resonates with the local crowd. Since its opening, Best Coffee built a loyal following not just for its technical proficiency with espresso, but for the personal touches Abeyta brought to the counter, including her signature specialty unrefined Mexican sugar cane drink, a year-round staple that has become a fan favorite. This success is the culmination of over a decade of industry experience; Abeyta has been refining her craft since she was 14, and her tenure at the well-regarded Carnelian Coffee provided the final springboard needed to launch her own independent brand.
Looking ahead to the next chapter, Abeyta said she wants to bring more live music into the shop’s operation at whatever space comes next, a feature the current mezzanine location did not easily allow for. No new address has been confirmed yet, according to Bridgetown Bites.
