Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is coming to Oregon, and it’s not thinking small. The Kansas-based fast-casual chain is actively recruiting franchise owners to build at least 20 locations across the Portland metro area, with additional interest in Bend, Salem, and Eugene. No specific addresses or opening dates have been announced yet, as the brand is still in the process of signing local franchise partners.

Oregon would mark a significant new territory for a brand that has become one of the fastest-growing franchise chains in the country. Founded in Wichita, Kansas, in 2002 by the Simon family and co-founder Scott Redler, Freddy’s built its following on a simple but uncompromising concept: made-to-order steakburgers, all-beef hot dogs, shoestring fries, and freshly churned frozen custard made throughout the day. The chain now operates nearly 600 locations nationwide and is on pace to open 60 more restaurants in 2026 alone.

The Oregon expansion follows the 2025 acquisition of Freddy’s by private equity firm Rhône, which took over with a stated goal of accelerating market growth into untapped regions. Portland is exactly the kind of large, underserved metro that fits that strategy. According to the Portland Business Journal, Freddy’s is prioritizing multi-unit and master franchise partners to build out new markets efficiently.
