Acai Fresh, the Davis acai bowl shop that has been quietly building one of the most loyal followings in the college town since opening at 431 G Street in October 2024, is expanding. Owner Lee Pflugrath confirmed to What Now Sacramento that two new locations are in the works for Sacramento, with plans for three more in the Walnut Creek area also in the pipeline. Addresses and opening dates have not yet been announced.

What sets Acai Fresh apart from the sea of smoothie bowl shops that have flooded the market is texture and integrity. The acai at Acai Fresh comes out of a soft-serve machine with just two ingredients: 100% organic Brazilian acai berries and organic apple juice: no fillers, no corn syrup, no watery consistency. The result is a dense, creamy bowl that tastes like actual acai is supposed to taste, topped with fresh and dried fruits, nuts, seeds, granola, nut butters, and more.

For anyone who has been to the Davis original, the news makes complete sense. Pflugrath spent years working on the concept after a chance golf cart ride in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he happened to share a cart with the owner of Berry Divine, a soft-serve acai company with several outlets in Arizona. That conversation changed everything.

Pflugrath is no stranger to building a business in Davis. He and his wife Laura Winton also own YoloBerry Yogurt, the frozen yogurt staple that has anchored Davis since 2008 and recently opened a second location at the UC Davis Silo. Acai Fresh was built as a natural complement to that legacy, standing on its own as a brand rather than being folded into the YoloBerry concept.
