Save Mart has filed for a liquor license at 212 W Atherton Dr in Manteca, marking the grocery chain’s third store in the city as it prepares to anchor the new Marketplace at Main shopping center at the southwest corner of Atherton Drive and South Main Street. State filings show the license held by Save Mart Supermarkets LLC, with James Perkins listed as president.
The new store will be nearly double the size of Save Mart’s existing Manteca locations on West Yosemite Avenue and North Main Street, giving the chain room for features the older stores don’t have, including full-service floral, produce, meat, deli and bakery departments, along with an on-site eatery and outdoor patio. The building is designed to run entirely on electric power, paired with an energy-efficient natural CO2 refrigeration system.
Save Mart’s history in Manteca stretches back to 1965, when the chain first opened in what’s now Accent Carpets on North Main Street. The broader Marketplace at Main project spans 18 acres and 116,000 square feet of retail space, developed by California Gold Development Corp alongside the Manteca-based Brocchini family. Beyond the grocery anchor, the center will bring in a second Chipotle, a third Quick Quack Car Wash, a fifth McDonald’s and an eighth Starbucks for the city, along with widened roads and upgraded freeway access as part of the surrounding infrastructure work.
