Portillo’s is preparing to expand its Texas footprint with a new restaurant planned for New Braunfels, according to a permit recently filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The upcoming restaurant is planned for 2807 Sophie Lane, where the project calls for the ground-up construction of a 4,987-square-foot restaurant featuring a drive-thru, as well as associated site work and landscaping.

According to the filing, construction is scheduled to begin on November 2, 2026, with completion targeted for May 3, 2027. The project carries an estimated construction cost of $2.5 million.

The permit lists the scope of work as the construction of a new commercial restaurant from the ground up. The project is privately funded, with A L 95 Creekside Town Center LP listed as the property owner. At the time of filing, no tenant or design firm had been identified.

Founded in 1963, Portillo’s is best known for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers, crinkle-cut fries and chocolate cake. The fast-casual chain has continued expanding beyond its Midwest roots, opening restaurants across several states, including Texas.

What Now San Antonio reached out to Portillo’s for additional information regarding the upcoming New Braunfels location, including what guests can expect and the anticipated opening timeline. This article may be updated as more information becomes available.
