Starbread, a Filipino bakery known for its Señorita Bread and fresh-baked pastries, is getting ready to open a new location in National City at 1457 E Plaza Boulevard.
The company recently submitted documents to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality to open the new location within Plaza Square Shopping Mall. Company management told WhatNow San Diego that they hope to open sometime in early next year. While an exact opening date has yet to be announced, customers can expect Starbread’s Señorita Bread, along with Filipino pastries, breads, and cakes.
The National City location will be Starbread’s third location in the San Diego area. The company currently has locations in Chula Vista at 520 Broadway, Suite 2, and Poway at 12318 Poway Road, according to its website. Starbread’s website lists 14 locations across California, including locations in Union City, Sacramento, Anaheim, Riverside, Roseville, Pleasant Hill, Pacifica, San Pablo, Carson, Daly City, Fairfield, and Vallejo.
Starbread describes its bakeries as serving Filipino pastries, breads, and cakes made fresh each morning. The company says its Señorita Bread has been its signature item since the beginning, made with soft dough, butter, and sugar and baked until golden. Its website also lists pandesal and ensaymada among its fresh-baked offerings. The company says Starbread began with the goal of bringing Filipino baking to communities across California. Starbread now has more than 10 years of baking experience and 14 locations in California.
The new National City bakery will add another Starbread location in the San Diego area. The company’s existing Chula Vista location opened in 2022, when the Seen family and business partners were overseeing Starbread’s expansion in San Diego. The National City location will continue that local growth, with the opening currently targeted for early next year.
