Supreme Dumplings is expanding into San Diego with a planned restaurant at One Paseo in Carmel Valley, bringing its Taiwanese soup dumpling concept to another Southern California market.
The company confirmed the San Diego expansion to What Now San Diego, although the opening timeline has yet to be disclosed.
The restaurant is expected to join the dining lineup at One Paseo, located at 3725 Paseo Place. Supreme Dumplings is a Taiwanese restaurant brand founded by Brandon Ting, the Taiwanese American entrepreneur behind Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya.
The brand centers its menu on xiao long bao, or Taiwanese soup dumplings, which are folded by hand and steamed to order. Each dumpling weighs 27 grams, comprising a six-gram wrapper, 11 grams of broth and 10 grams of filling.
Executive Chef Lu developed the recipe around that ratio, and the kitchen teams trained in the Taiwanese master-apprentice tradition. Beyond its signature dumplings, the menu includes spicy wontons, noodles, fried rice and other Taiwanese dishes. Varieties of xiao long bao include pork, Wagyu beef, black truffle and chicken.
The planned restaurant is in the Carmel Valley neighborhood, near Del Mar. Bern McGovern of NorthCounty_SD identified the former Tocaya Organica space as the prospective location.
Ting opened his first Kizuki restaurant in Bellevue nearly 15 years ago. He now operates 17 Kizuki locations, while Supreme Dumplings represents his second restaurant concept and a growing part of his business.
Supreme Dumplings currently operates six restaurants in Washington, along with locations in San Francisco, Katy, Texas, and Honolulu.
