dd’s DISCOUNTS, the discount retail chain owned by Ross Stores, is preparing to open several new locations across San Diego County, including stores in Chula Vista, El Cajon, and Oceanside.
The company’s upcoming Chula Vista location is set to open in the former Rite Aid at 507 Telegraph Canyon Road, while additional stores are planned for 1085 E Main Street in El Cajon and 449 College Boulevard in Oceanside, according to filings submitted to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality.
The El Cajon and Oceanside stores will both replace former Big Lots locations in the Main Street Marketplace and the Mission Marketplace, respectively. While official opening dates have not yet been announced, both new projects are currently listed as pending consults. Customers can expect dd’s DISCOUNTS’ typical selection of discounted apparel, footwear, home décor, accessories, and household essentials.
The retailer continues to grow throughout Southern California, with multiple existing locations already operating across San Diego County. Owned by Ross Stores, dd’s DISCOUNTS focuses on offering brand-name merchandise at lower prices than traditional department stores. The chain has built a strong customer base by rotating inventory frequently and offering a broad mix of products across several categories. That approach encourages repeat visits, since inventory often changes from week to week.
The new locations will place the retailer in established commercial centers with consistent daily traffic and surrounding residential neighborhoods. The Chula Vista store sits along Telegraph Canyon Road, one of the area’s busiest retail corridors. At the same time, the El Cajon and Oceanside sites are both located in active shopping centers that were previously occupied by Big Lots. This will be an excellent landing space for dd’s DISCOUNTS, considering the visibility and accessibility each center already offers local shoppers.
One of the company’s biggest draws is its pricing structure, with many items typically offered between 20% and 70% below traditional department store prices. Customers shopping at dd’s DISCOUNTS can usually find clothing, shoes, beauty products, toys, home goods, and seasonal merchandise all within the same store. The constantly changing inventory also gives shoppers a different experience each time they visit.
dd’s DISCOUNTS has not yet shared additional details regarding grand opening timelines or potential hiring plans for the new San Diego County stores.
