Buck Mason, a California-based menswear and lifestyle brand, is preparing to open a new retail location in La Jolla at 7802 Girard Avenue, Suite B, or 4301 La Jolla Village Drive in San Diego.
The company’s first San Diego-area location remains unconfirmed, as it is currently evaluating multiple sites, including a space in Westfield UTC and a storefront on Girard Avenue in La Jolla, according to recent permit filings submitted to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality. Buck Mason is also actively hiring for retail supervisor roles in La Jolla. An exact opening timeline has not been announced, but the filings indicate the brand is moving closer to entering the market.
The Girard Avenue location would span approximately 1,896 square feet and would take over a space previously occupied by CP Shades, a garment-dyed clothing retailer. The Westfield UTC site at 4301 La Jolla Village Drive is also under review, creating some uncertainty around which location will ultimately become the brand’s first San Diego store. Both filings point to active buildout planning, suggesting the company is finalizing its entry into the region.
Buck Mason has not confirmed which address will move forward first, but the presence of multiple permit applications suggests a near-term expansion into San Diego is underway. Hiring activity in La Jolla further supports this direction, particularly for supervisor-level retail positions tied to an upcoming store opening.
Founded by Erik Allen Ford and Sasha Koehn, Buck Mason started as a small operation out of a 350-square-foot garage producing locally made jeans and T-shirts. The brand opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Venice in 2015 and has since expanded across California and other major U.S. markets. The company continues to focus on classic American wardrobe essentials built around durability and simple design.
Some Buck Mason locations also feature “Fast Times,” an in-store coffee concept described by the brand as “diner coffee, done right,” which blends retail with a hospitality component. Locations featuring the concept include Abbot Kinney in Los Angeles, SoHo in New York, and 12 South in Nashville. If the San Diego store includes a similar setup, it would mark a continuation of the brand’s hybrid retail strategy combining apparel and café service.
Editor’s Note: The article has been recently updated to include the new Westfield UTC address.
