According to a recently submitted permit application, a new restaurant listed as Itani Sushi is gearing up to debut in Berkeley.

Coming to 1511 Shattuck Avenue, Suite D, the eatery will land near establishments such as Cafenated Coffee Company, Cheese Board Collective Pizzeria, and Saul’s Restaurant & Delicatessen.

What Now San Francisco reached out to the concept’s owner, Kyle Itani — who is also the founder of Yonsei Handrolls and Hopscotch Takeout — to inquire about the expansion, but he could not provide additional information before publication.

For readers who are unfamiliar with Takeshi’s existing spots, Yonsei Handrolls is known for its “open-faced Japanese sushi handrolls made of crisp nori, seasoned sushi rice, and top-notch fish” — and Hopscotch, his first restaurant, is “a classic American diner with a Japanese twist.”

An opening date has not been announced yet, so stay tuned for updates.
